In spite of this, there are a number of universal tips that can help patients better prepare for eye surgery and speed their recovery time.

First and foremost,
§ Take the extra time you need to find a reputable surgeon with extensive experience in your type of surgery.
o Finding the right doctor is the critical first step in the surgery process. Your eye surgery will only be successful if it is performed by a qualified medical professional. Selecting a doctor based on cost alone is rarely a good move, since surgeons offering cheaper solutions usually do so because they are inexperienced in performing that type of surgery. Keep in mind that should complications arise, you want someone who knows how to quickly and effectively deal with the situation and minimize any damage to your eye.

§ Thoroughly research the procedure you will be undergoing before signing any consent forms.
o This includes taking the time to ask your surgeon any questions you may have about the procedure. A good doctor will take the time to answer all of your questions, as well as inform you of any potential risks and side-effects of the surgery. Take advantage of this and be sure you are fully comfortable with the procedure before you agree to undergo the surgery.

§ Follow all of the pre-operative procedures recommended by your doctor.
o Your surgeon may advise you to avoid certain medications, foods, or activities (such as smoking and drinking alcohol) before undergoing eye surgery. These restrictions are put in place to ensure your eyes are in good condition for the procedure, giving you the best possible chance for a successful surgery and a quick recovery period. Failure to abide by these restrictions may put your health and the success of your surgery at risk.

§ Stop wearing contact lenses in advance of the surgery, as directed by your doctor.
o Since contact lens rest directly on your eye, they exert pressure on the cornea and can actually change the shape of your eye. This is an importance consideration for individuals undergoing eye surgery, especially patients of refractive eye surgery to correct their vision. In order for the procedure to be successful, it is necessary to pinpoint those regions of the eye that need to be treated. If your eye is not in its normal natural shape or state, any attempts to correct visual impairments will not be successful. For this reason, surgeons will request that many eye surgery patients stop wearing contact lenses anywhere from two to four weeks prior to the procedure.

§ Get a good night?s sleep the night before the surgery.
o A well-rested patient is less likely to be unduly anxious and will recover more quickly than someone who is stressed and suffering from lack of sleep. Remember ? adequate sleep is necessary to stay healthy.

§ Make arrangements to have someone you trust drive you home from the surgery.
o Your vision will be blurry and you may be under the effects of a sedative after undergoing your eye surgery. Regardless of the type and extent of the procedure, patients are in no condition to drive immediately after the surgery. Ensure your safety and well-being by arranging for a ride home in advance.

§ Know what side-effects you may experience before undergoing the procedure
o Inquire about potential side-effects and make sure you know what to expect during the recovery period before you go in for the procedure. On your surgery day, you will likely be distracted and anxious and will not retain much information. It?s important to know what to look out for after your surgery so you can catch any potential problems immediately, before they can cause significant damage and jeopardize your health.

§ Call your doctor immediately if you experience any unusual side-effects
o If you experience anything unusual or are concerned about how you are recovering from your procedure, contact your doctor immediately. Refer to the potential side-effects of the procedure as discussed above, and use these as your guidelines for what is normal and to be expected. If in doubt, err on the side of caution and call your doctor ? it?s always better to be safe than sorry.

§ Take all medication as prescribed.
o The medication prescribed by your surgeon is designed to speed the healing process and protect your eye from adverse side effects. Therefore, it is imperative that you take all medication as prescribed.

§ Avoid touching, rubbing, or bumping your eye while it is healing.
o Any direct contact with your eye while it is healing can result in damage to the eye and may result in severe complications. Wearing an eye shield as needed, especially while you are sleeping, can help you avoid unnecessary contact with your eye.

§ Avoid makeup, lotions, and creams while your eye is healing.
o These items can interfere with the eye?s natural healing ability and prolong your recovery period.

§ Stay away from medications that can interfere with your body?s natural healing process, such as steroids
o Some medications can prevent your eye from properly healing and delay the recovery process.

And last, but not least
§ Give yourself time to recover from the surgery before jumping back into your busy life
o Keep in mind that you are recovering from an invasive procedure. It will take some time before you start feeling like your normal self. Taking it easy for a few days will enable your body to rest and heal faster than it will if you subject it to undue stress.

Gray Rollins is a featured writer for MyEyeSurgery.com. These new methods of correction help people by restoring vision back to a more normal state. They put forth an effort to lessen any refractive error by making light rays focus correctly on the retina.

Laser eye surgery, also known as refractive surgery has gained popularity amongst many. This treatment is useful for those who wish to reduce their dependency on glasses or contact lenses. The latest trend in laser surgery is a procedure called ?laser in situ keratomileusis?, also known as LASIK. The cornea permanently changes shape during this procedure. It is used to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. LASIK surgery is now more affordable but is not reversible.

The first step generally begins with the eye surgeon administering tests to check the suitability of LASIK for the patient. People who have dry eye syndrome, diseases like glaucoma, cataract or diabetes are strongly advised not to undertake the treatment.

The first phase of the operation is where the patient is made to sit on a reclined chair and drops of solutions are placed in an eye. After that the cornea is cleaned of floating foreign matter, then an instrument called a lid speculum is put over the eyes to keep the eyelids open. The ring is place right on the eyeball. Suction is then applied around the cornea. Patients experience blurring and dimming of vision. Then the surgeon uses a microkeratome (surgical knife) to create a thin, circular flap in the cornea.

After this the microkeratome and ring are removed. The doctor then makes the patient stare towards the light. This is done so that the eye stays focused on a fixed object. The pre-programmed laser then cuts corneal tissue, thereby reshaping it. After the cornea has been reshaped, the flap is replaced back with a preventative shield and is placed over the eyes to protect them from irritants.

The actual operation takes less than five minutes and most people experience improved vision after approximately 24 hours. It is considered very important to take care of the eyes after the operation. It is advisable not to drive for a few weeks. Postoperative check ups with the surgeon are recommended.

Laser Eye Surgery provides detailed information on Laser Eye Surgery, Laser Eye Surgery Costs, Corrective Laser Eye Surgeries, Lasik Laser Eye Surgeries and more. And when you add to that the expense of vision treatment for those who wear glasses or contacts, it can be downright frustrating. But what most people have come to discover is that corrective laser eye surgery ? a procedure that takes less than an hour and costs considerably less than a lifetime of vision correction prescriptions ? can not only perfect your vision but address a number of eye conditions with which many people suffer.

Corrective laser eye surgery can allow you to finally have the vision you have always wanted; most patients are able to achieve 20/20 vision even immediately following the procedure. For those who have suffered with poor vision their entire lives, this can be a miracle procedure. And for those who suffer from such degenerative conditions as dry eye ? wherein sufferers experience itchy, burning eyes, glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, corrective laser eye surgery can be a saving grace.

When most people think of corrective laser eye surgery they immediately think of Lasik surgery ? a popular procedure that is used to correct vision. But the truth is that corrective eye surgery is rather like an umbrella phrase under which all manner of corrective procedures fall. Lasik is indeed one of the procedures that falls under this umbrella and is considered to be an excimer laser procedure ? through which the cornea of the eye is reshaped by laser. Lasik ? and the procedures like it - correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The difference between the various excimer laser procedures is the type of laser that is used and the technique that is followed depending on what particular procedure is likely to bring you the most success based on the condition and shape of your eyes.

Non-excimer laser procedures are another group that falls with corrective laser eye surgery. Such procedures involve one of three things: the insertion of permanent lenses into the eye, the reshaping of the eye using laser energy or radio waves instead of lasers themselves, or the actual cutting of the eye. These procedures are meant for those who experience severely compromised vision or cataracts.

Other corrective eye surgery may include more complex and comprehensive procedures such as cornea transplants during which healthy tissue from a donor eye is transplanted into the eye of someone whose own cornea has been compromised due to injury or illness. There is also a procedure that is used to treat Keratoconus ? or the bulging of the corneas; during this procedure the surgeon places plastic inserts (Intacs) onto the corners of the cornea to flatten them.

Not surprisingly, as technology continues to advance, corrective laser eye surgery continues to make similar advancements. More and more people have come to discover that it is no longer necessary to live with permanent vision impairment. If you feel that you may be a candidate for such procedures, see your eye doctor for a thorough examination.

http://www.TheLasikZone.com brings you the latest on Lasik. Laser eye surgery or as it is sometimes also referred to as Lasik eye surgery can change a persons life by allowing them to finally be free from bifocals or glasses. As with any type of surgery there have been documented results that are not complimentary, but having said that, the laser eye surgery procedure these days is fairly commonplace and has come a long way since it's beginning.

A prospective patient will start their research by going to an optometrist as well as consulting their general practitioner.

What happens when Laser Eye Surgery is Performed?

Various techniques are used these days, only one eye is worked upon at a time, but they all generally follow a procedure which calls for the eye to be exposed to a laser as well as having a scalpel called a microkeratome which slices a flap across the cornea. When the center of the cornea, the stroma, is accessible the laser is used to cut or burn away part of the stroma thus changing the shape of the cornea and creating a different focal distance point and ending in providing a change of vision.

Further Details of the Procedure and Post Surgery Effects.

Although the actual laser eye surgery will be uncomfortable from the point of view of having something actually manipulating and interfering with the eye, the surgery does not actually take very long to perform and is carried out under a local anesthetic. This is an unnatural act that a human being has to endure because lets face it, all our lives we are preventing damage to our eyes by avoiding the entry of foreign particles and then staring straight ahead while an object is poking around in there well can really be traumatic to some. All this is essential for the surgeon to be able to carry out the laser eye surgery successfully.

The laser surgery itself exposes the patient to unfamiliar sights and sounds such as the noises emitting from the laser and other equipment. The feeling of a piece of equipment placed over the eye with the blurred vision which will stay for longer than the surgery itself. Post surgery, the eye is then protected from the unconscious rubbing and scratching or accidental knocking of the corneal flap while in it's critical healing phase.

Post laser eye surgery the patient will have to adjust their lifestyle to accommodate the healing cornea. This includes, no swimming or sporting activity that could cause the cornea to be dislodged. Ladies will have to abstain from applying makeup and creams around the eye area. The protective shield placed over the eye remains there, night and day, for up to four weeks with the patient having to display a high degree of self control and patience.

After all the hoops one has to jump through have been overcome the patient stops being a patient and now becomes a glasses free human being again. If all of the above laser eye surgery seems a small price to pay to you then it seems that you have what it takes to be able to not wear glasses again. But don't forget, this usually has to be done all over again on the other eye.

For further information on the interesting subject of Laser Eye Surgery visit our web site.

What Is Laser Eye Surgery?

Laser eye correction the best way to correct your eyesight. The word lasik is the short term for "Laser assisted in situ kerotomileusis".

Lasik surgery is a procedure that changes the shape of the cornea to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism eliminating the need for glasses and contact lenses. People with myopia or near sightedness see things clearer when they are close as opposed to far objects. People with hyperopia or far sightedness have trouble seeing near objects as clearly as far objects. Astigmatism is when the image in the retina is distorted, this is caused by an abnormal shape of the cornea.

The cornea is the thin layer of skin in the front of the eye. Its job is to help focus light to create an image on the retina. This is known as refraction. When the cornea becomes out of shape it creates an out of focus, blurred or distorted image called refractive errors.

Lasik eye surgeons correct the refractive error by using a knife called a microkeratome to cut a thin c shaped flap in the cornea. The flap is then folded back exposing the stroma which is the center of the cornea. Pulse from an excimer laser uses an ultra violet beam to remove part of the stroma giving a normal shape to the cornea. The flap is then replaced.

Lasik eye surgery is relatively pain free and improved vision is normally obtained by the next day. Making it a very safe and popular option for better vision. Nearly 99% of patients having lasik eye surgery done will experience 20/40 vision or better. This is enough to obtain a drivers license without any restriction. Over 90% of the surgery will result in a 20/20 vision.

Some patients may need to repeat the surgery if the eye becomes near sighted or far sighted again but it is a very small percentage.

Is lasik laser eye surgery for you? Laser eye surgery benefits certain people more than others; it is dependent on individual conditions. Remember, laser eye surgery is not magic; it is a procedure. It is apt for people who have a problem involving cornea or the lens of the eye. If you are blind, laser eye surgery is of no use. Neither is it of any use if you have a vision problem that has to do with the brain.

Laser eye surgery is for those who have problems of the eye, such as Myopia (nearsightedness), Hyperopia (farsightedness), or Astigmatism. Laser eye surgery will not help people with age-related vision problems, such as presbyopia. Presbyopia has nothing to do with the cornea and occurs when the lens becomes less flexible.

Candidate for Laser Eye Surgery

Let us assume you suffer from Myopia. This means you can see things that are close up, but cannot see distant objects clearly. If your myopia has reached an extreme stage, then laser eye surgery may not be beneficial. In case of extreme astigmatism too, it does not work. Similarly, if you have a large pupil, it is of no use as the laser will not be able to reach where it needs to. Laser eye surgery is beneficial to you if you have a normal bad vision.

You can go for laser eye surgery if your eyeball has stopped growing. This is why younger people cannot go for laser eye surgery. The laser eye surgery cannot take care of the future growth of the eyeball. Every person?s eye condition is unique; therefore indications and contra-indications can be ascertained only by pre-operative tests. If your eyes check out OK for laser surgery, there are other things to see before the surgery are:

* You should be in good health.

* Your eyes should be in good health - no pus or random blood leakage.

* You should not have diabetes or other disorders that retard healing.

* You should not have undergone a previous major eye surgery. This could cause unpredictable healing.

There are, basically, two different types of laser surgeries ? the Laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK). LASIK is more popular, and people prefer this. For undergoing LASIK eye surgery you must be 18 years of age, with stable glasses or contact lens prescription for at least two years. You should avoid surgery if your medications include steroids or immuno-suppressants because this can prevent healing.

Check out this link for affordable laser eye surgery. Although not for everyone, laser eye surgery has become a popular and safe surgery choice for those who qualify. However, because eye surgery is still surgery, it is important to understand both the good and bad so you can make an informed decision.

The majority of people going through laser eye surgery have excellent results, often achieving 20/20 vision. As you can imagine, being able to wake up in the morning to see the alarm clock or things across the room is a wonderful experience, actually life changing. While healing time does play a role in the overall procedure, the results can be nothing less than miraculous.

On the other hand, laser eye surgery can affect some people in a negative way. Therefore, it is imperative you understand potential side effects from this surgery. For instance, some people will develop what is known as Post-Lasik Dry eye. This condition causes the eye to dry out, which is painful. To help, artificial tears are used several times a day to lubricate the eye. Typically, this condition lasts for about two months but in rare instances, the condition can be forever, meaning drops become a normal part of life.

Another potential side effect of laser eye surgery is the development of double or triple vision. Again, this very, rare condition affects only a small number of people having undergone this procedure. If the surgery is done by a skilled surgeon who has made the correct surgical assessment, the problem is virtually eliminated. Then, the loss of night vision is another possible side effect. If careful screening is performed first, this to can be eliminated.

A full assessment is the most important aspect of any laser eye surgery. The surgeon would need to determine the degree of vision in both eyes, as well as the overall health of the eyes. A good surgeon would know ahead of time of any potential problems that might increase the risk of problems, which is why choosing the doctor wisely is so important.

Need more info on what is laser eye surgery, visit our website at http://www.eyesurgeryfaq.com

Laser Surgery for Your Eyes

Having problems with vision and having to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses can be burdensome. Some have problems with constantly losing or breaking glasses and tearing contact lenses. Some find it difficult to look for glasses that perfectly fit the shape of their faces and some feel that it makes them look older.

If you are looking for a more permanent solution to these problems, you might want to have a look at laser surgery for eyes.

Laser surgery can be the solution for the problems of your eyes. For those having vision problems, the procedures available are quick and recovery period is shorter.

A number of laser surgery for the eyes are available to address different forms of vision problems. PRK and LASIK are two of the most common laser surgery for eyes recommended to correct vision problems.

The most common cause of poor vision results from poor refraction of light due to distortions on the surface of the eye. Before each laser surgery for eyes, a doctor uses an aberrometer?s laser beams to produce a 3D image of the actual shape of the cornea on a monitor. This helps him find the exact area where re-shaping of tissues should be done.

Laser surgery for the eyes involves scraping or lifting the cornea and using laser beams to re-shape the tissue beneath it. This has been proven t be effective for astigmatism, near sightedness and far sightedness.

Laser surgery for eyes is also recommended for glaucoma patients. Glaucoma results from poor drainage of aqueous fluids in the eye. The result is a build- up of pressure that can press against the optic nerves. This can lead to serious complications especially if the optic nerves are damaged beyond repair. Laser beams can be directed into the area where this fluid accumulates to widen the angle through which it flows.

In the case of glaucoma caused by the construction of new and more blood vessels, laser can be used to destroy these new and often poorly formed blood vessels so aqueous fluids can easily flow.

Some eye diseases can have very serious complications. One example is retinopathy which is a complication of diabetes which can compromise vision. If left on its own, it can cause permanent blindness.

Through laser surgery for eyes, leaky capillaries, swelling and any build-up of fluids can be removed. This helps on preserving and restoring normal eyesight for these patients.

Advanced age can also lead to diseases that can seriously undermine vision. This is best exemplified by age related macular degeneration. New and defective blood vessels form networks that prevent normal eyesight. Through laser surgery for eyes, these unhealthy blood vessels are removed.

People with cataracts can also benefit from laser surgery for the eyes. Through a specific procedure called phacoemulsification, the cataract is broken into smaller pieces. Afterwards, the pieces are suctioned off via a small cut. Minor problems can be in the form of hazy film or blurred vision which can easily be corrected. After the cataract is removed, it does not return.

Laser surgery for eyes has a good number of benefits. Surgery can be done in the doctor's office with the patient leaving for home as soon as the procedure is complete. Some laser surgery for eyes can take as little as 20 minutes to complete. They are virtually painless and some only describe minor stinging during the procedure.

One may experience increased sensitivity to light and some blurring of vision but these are normal and will clear up in a matter of 3-4 days. Doctors often give eye drops or oral medication to prevent infection and to counter some minor side-effects.

Recovery is also quick and the person can resume normal activities after 4-5 days.

For more information now go to: http://www.perfectlasikvision.com/Laser-Surgery-For-Eyes.html

http://www.myalpha-power.com or

http://www.aperfectharmony.com

The Wonders of Laser Eye Surgery: How It Works

Laser technology has been one of technology's greatest products that has positively improved the way things work. It has a number of applications and benefits, including in the field of medicine. An excellent example is laser eye surgery.

Laser eye surgery has given hope to people with eye problems, be it with vision or aesthetic aspects. For most people thinking of undergoing it, the first question is of course how laser eye surgery works.

Common problems concerning poor vision can be caused by distortions on the surface of the eye and its components. Light rays may be poorly reflected resulting in poor vision. This accounts for common vision problems such as astigmatism, near sightedness and far sightedness.

Some people also find wearing eyeglasses cumbersome while some even become self-conscious of it. Some wear contact lenses but still wish to go for a more permanent solution so they wouldn't have to be so depended on it.

Laser eye surgery can be an option for this problem by helping correct the distortions and improve passing of light rays. Basically, what it does is to use laser beams to change the shape of the cornea to one that is most effective for vision.

So how does laser eye surgery work?

First, the doctor has to have a clear picture of the distortion. He uses an aberrometer. This also works by using a low- energy laser beam that is directed to the cornea, reflected and produces a 3D image on the aberrometer's screen.

The most common form of laser eye surgery is LASIK or laser assisted in-situ keratomileusis. This laser eye surgery works by making a small cut to excise the top layer of the cornea during the surgery. It is mostly recommended because of faster recovery period.

Another option is photorefractive keratectomy or PRK. In this procedure, a portion of the cornea is scraped away and then laser is used to reshape the tissue underneath it. This was developed earlier than LASIK with LASIK being usually recommended because of its very minimal discomforts.

A fusion of the wonders of LASIK and PRK is Epi-LASIK or Epithelial Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis. This laser eye surgery works by making a thin flap of corneal epithelium using a microkeratome- like instrument. The underlying corneal layer is separated from the epithelium without cutting. It does not use alcohol solution to remove the epithelial layer. After this, the underlying cornea can be re-shaped to correct the distortion by using laser beam. Afterwards, the epithelium is restored to its normal position.

As was mentioned above, this laser eye surgery technique combines the benefits of the other techniques with less complications. After the procedure, the patient will be required to wear a thin, soft contact lens that will act like a bandage until the area heals completely. Healing and recovery is also faster and may only take around 3 to 4 days.

Laser eye surgery also works for more serious eye and vision problems such as diabetic retinopathy. Edema, swelling and leaking of capillaries in the eye that may accompany this complication of diabetes can make a person a potential candidate for laser eye surgery. This is to prevent more serious and permanent damage to the eyes that can lead to blindness.

Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) is the more serious and later stage of this disease where laser eye surgery is a more important choice of treatment. The technique for this is known as laser photocoagulation of the peripheral retina. The entire procedure may be completed in as short as 30-45 minutes per session. It may take around 3-4 sessions to fully benefit from this procedure with it being performed at the doctor's office.

Laser eye surgery also works for age-related vision problems. One such technique is Photodynamic Therapy. This makes use of a light activated dye called Visudyne. This is introduced to the patient's arm via injection. It enters the circulation and into the area beneath the retina where new blood vessels are formed. A non-thermal red laser is then used to activate Visudyne molecules. The activated molecules begin sealing holes and destroying unhealthy blood vessels.

Laser eye surgery can work miracles and provide new hope for people with vision problems of varying degrees. The key is to diagnose the condition and carefully evaluate which laser eye surgery technique will work best for the patient and you physician will do this for you.

For more information now go to: http://www.perfectlasikvision.com/How-Does-Laser-Eye-Surgery-Work.html
http://www.myalpha-power.com or http://www.aperfectharmony.com

An Alternative to Laser Eye Correction for the Over 50's

Laser eye correction (e.g. LASIK, Epi-LASIK, LASEK and PRK) works by slightly altering the curvature of the cornea. The cornea is the curved clear window at the front of the eye. All that the laser can do is to remove tissue. To correct short sight (myopia) the laser flattens the centre of the cornea. To correct long sight (hyperopia) it makes the centre more prominent by removing tissue in a ring pattern around the centre. There is a limit to how much tissue can be removed safely. This is why some people are not suitable for laser eye correction. In other words not all eyes can be ?fixed? with laser and this is usually because the prescription is too high. However there are alternatives to laser. One of these is ?Refractive Lens Exchange?.

The eye is like a camera. Apart from the cornea at the front of the eye the other main focusing part of the eye is the lens. The natural lens of the eye cannot be seen without special instruments but it is positioned within the eye just behind the pupil. This natural lens can be surgically removed and replaced with an artificial lens, called a ?lens implant?. The power of the ?lens implant? is chosen to give the eye the correction that is wanted. With this operation almost any degree of short or long sight can be treated. In other words ?Refractive Lens Exchange? can be used to ?fix? eyes that cannot be corrected using laser treatment.

The surgical procedure for ?Refractive Lens Exchange? is the same as a modern cataract operation. This means it uses tried and tested technology. It is not a new or experimental treatment. It is using a proven technique for a new purpose. A cataract is where the natural lens of the eye has become cloudy obscuring vision. The treatment is to remove the natural cloudy lens and replace it with a clear artificial lens. In ?Refractive Lens Exchange? the natural lens is still clear and healthy but is removed and replaced with a lens implant in order to correct a focus error (refractive error) of vision. For this reason, and to differentiate it from a cataract operation, it is also sometimes called ?Clear Lens Extraction?

Refractive Lens Exchange is best suited to those over 50 years of age. This is because in youth the natural lens of the eye is pliable and gives the eye adjustable focus providing both distance and near vision. This ability is lost with aging and is why many require reading spectacles from mid-40?s onwards. Removing the lens much before this age will rob the patient of natural focus adjustment which is difficult to restore with a lens implant. However for ?the more mature? where near focus has already been lost anyway this is less of an issue.

Where an attempt is made to assist both near and distance vision the procedure is sometimes called ?Presbyopic Lens Exchange? or ?PRELEX?. This can be achieved in several ways. One eye may be corrected for distance vision whilst the other is set for near vision. This is called ?monovision?. Alternatively some surgeons use multifocal lens implants, although these can reduce the quality of vision. Adjustable focus lens implants exist but as yet they do not usually restore a focus adjustment equivalent to that in youth. Laser eye surgery is not as risky as it used to be but it still does have plenty of risks associated with it. Many people are choosing this type of surgical procedure to correct their vision. It is important for anyone thinking about having eye surgery to be aware of the risks and possible outcomes of the surgery. Making an informed decision starts with discussing the possible outcomes with your surgeon.

Better Vision

Of course the ideal outcome is that you will come out of the surgery with better vision than before. Although it is possible to have fully corrected vision and not need glasses at all any more, it is also possible that you will still need glasses to see at certain distances. The ideal outcome for vision correction is to have your vision fully restored and no further need of glasses or contacts.

No Change

It is also possible that despite the surgeons best efforts you will walk away from the surgery clinic with little or no change in your eyesight. Although this is very disappointing it can usually be rectified with an additional surgery. This is not very common but it is a possibility that you should be prepared for.

Worse Vision

Most people thinking of having laser surgery do not consider the possible result of having worse vision than before. Even when their surgeon clearly states this as a possible result of the surgery many patients have a difficult time actually thinking this could happen to them. Often this type of outcome can be corrected through and additional surgery but it is possible that the damage to the eyes will be permanent.

Full Vision Loss

Your ophthalmology surgeon will explain the worst possible outcome to you at your consultation appointment. Although it is extremely uncommon to have a laser surgery result in blindness, it is possible and you should be informed about this possible result of your surgery.

Infection

This is fairly uncommon but still can happen to anyone who is having corrective eye surgery. Your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic or antibiotic eye drop to help prevent an infection from occurring. If an infection does occur it is important to get it treated right away to prevent damage to your eyes or your vision.

Finding out from Your Surgeon

Anyone thinking about having laser eye surgery should be aware of all the possible outcomes to their surgery. Doing your own research and educating yourself on the techniques, training, and results of laser eye surgery will be beneficial when you attend your consultation meeting with your surgeon.

At your consultation, feel free to discuss your concerns regarding the type of surgery you will be undergoing. An open discussion of the possible effects of eye surgery is the best way to gather the important information you need in order to make your decision. The Internet is another great resource tool for finding out more information on laser eye surgery.

Finding the corrective eye surgery solution that is right for you can be a challenge. Today, laser vision correction procedures are so technologically advanced that there are many options besides the conventional LASIK surgery.

Understand Your Options

For the individual looking to reduce their dependency on glasses or contacts, surgical procedures which improve the focusing power of the eye, are a tremendously effective option. The procedure commonly referred to as LASIK is the most technologically advanced way to correct vision, and has helped millions of people worldwide reduce their dependency on glasses and contact lenses.

LASIK surgery uses a cool beam, also known as an excimer, to reshape the surface of the eye, the cornea. By altering the shape of the cornea it is able to change the angle in which light enters the eye. Glasses and contact lenses employ this same theory with an impermanent change. In the past LASIK has had some limitations but now is able to successfully correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

LASIK is the most common term used to refer to laser vision correction procedures. All forms of LASIK use an excimer laser to reshape the cornea, but there are variations to the procedure which provide different advantages. A series of vision tests called Advanced Diagnostic Testing allows your doctor to determine which approach is best for you.

LASIK

LASIK (Laser-Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis) gently reshapes the cornea with the use of an excimer laser. In traditional LASIK, an extraordinarily thin flap is created in the top layer of the cornea and then gently folded back. The underlying layer is then re-shaped with the laser in a matter of seconds, correcting the refractive errors that cause the vision impairment. The flap is then repositioned across the cornea, which naturally adheres and begins to heal within minutes. Of all the laser vision correction procedures, LASIK provides the most comfortable and rapid healing process.

Advanced Surface Ablation

ASA refers to the laser vision correction procedures that treat the surface of the cornea without the creation of a flap. PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) and Epi-LASIK are the two most common forms of ASA and refer to the methods of preparing the corneal surface just prior to using the laser. ASA is the safest form of laser vision correction. It allows a wider range of patients to be treated who may not be able to undergo a traditional LASIK procedure due to thin corneas, job restrictions, or other visual issues. ASA is also considered by many to provide the chance for the sharpest and clearest vision, since there are no induced refractive errors associated with a corneal flap. ASA does have a disadvantage because it usually involves a few days of discomfort (treated with Ibuprofen), and a slower visual recovery time, ranging from a few days to a few weeks. Generally, only the most experienced surgeons practice the Advanced Surface Ablation techniques.

Blended Vision

Blended Vision is a LASIK technique you might want to consider if you wear reading glasses or are nearing the age when reading glasses may become necessary. As we get older, we frequently have trouble reading, particularly small or very fine print. This is a natural part of the aging process associated with the lens inside the eye. When this happens, most people need reading glasses. If you use glasses to read prior to LASIK surgery or you remove your glasses to read, you may need to use glasses for reading after LASIK, because LASIK does not treat the lens inside the eye. However, a Blended Vision procedure may provide you with suitable near and distance vision. Blended Vision, also called monovision, is a technique in which one eye (usually the dominant eye) is corrected for clear distance vision, and the other for comfortable near vision. Blended Vision allows a person to see both close and distant objects clearly, though perhaps not quite as crisply as when both eyes are corrected for just one distance or the other. Many people who wear contacts use blended vision today and are very satisfied. Your doctor will demonstrate how this method works prior to your procedure, and thereby help determine if Blended Vision will work well for you.

CustomCornea ?

Wavefront technology is now being incorporated to identify subtle visual distortions, which up to now have been unable to be measured, let alone be treated. Wavefront treatments such as CustomCornea? provide the best opportunity for superior vision compared to that previously available through older, conventional methods of LASIK.

When it comes to LASIK, there are many options to consider. LASIK candidates are all different in their needs and desires for choosing surgery over glasses or contacts. A successful outcome for refractive surgery is dependent upon choosing the best procedure for their needs and a surgeon who specializes in LASIK.

Aric Resnicke is President of the Pacific Laser Eye Center Group.? When you find your Denver-based eye surgeon and discuss the possibility of hacing laser vision correction surgery, you?ll most likely discover that the procedure isn?t covered by insurance. There are several reasons for this, and your eye doctor will be happy to discuss payment arrangements or financing with you. But it helps to know why the procedure isn?t covered.

Vision correction surgery, wither Lasik or PRKJ, is what?s known as elective surgery. That means that you have no existing medical condition that requires the surgery, nor is it an emergency that you have the procedure. You can live a long, healthy life without correcting your vision ? it?s certainly a improved life with better vision, but it?s entirely your choice to get the surgery so that you no longer need glasses or contact lenses. Whether you have your surgery in Denver or elsewhere, as an elective procedure you must be over 18 years old to get Lasik or PRK, you must be in good health and your eye doctor will want to be assured that you haven?t had a significant change in your prescription in the past year.

You should still check with your insurance carrier before your Denver laser eye surgery, because some of your appointments may still be covered by insurance. Your ophthalmologist?s staff should be able to help you with your financing and payment choices, but they won?t know what your insurance will cover. So go over every detail of your vision surgery with a representative from your insurance company first, so that you know which procedures and services are covered and which are not.

Also keep in mind that Denver laser eye surgery is not necessarily a permanent solution to your vision problems. If you have the surgery in your 20's or early 30's, you may find that you still need glasses in your 50's. Your vision will still be much better than it would have been otherwise ? after all, the eye will continue to age as you do. Many people who get Lasik find they need reading glasses in mid-life. But evcen thouigh it?s not covered by insurance, many people in Denver and around the world opt to have refractive laser surgery to improve their vision, with great success.

Dean Iggo is the webmaster of discount contact lenses where you can find reviews and information on bifocal contact lenses, lasik eye surgery and more..

Laser Cosmetic Eye Surgery : The Marvels of Light

One of the first things which we notice about a person's face is the eyes. We even say that we see a person's soul through them. Therefore, their health and functioning should always be maintained as sight is also one of our most important senses. Having problems with vision is a burden for many people.

Although the eyes and vision can easily be aided through eyeglasses or contact lenses, it still is far from having normal vision. Today however, laser cosmetic eye surgery is giving these individuals new hope and look forward to days where they never have to worry about broken glasses or torn contact lenses.

The most common form of laser cosmetic eye surgery today is LASIK. It stands for laser assisted in-situ keratomileusis.

It is a simple procedure which involves the use of laser beams to remove the cornea and remodel the tissue underneath it. This improves the manner at which light is refracted which is the common cause of astigmatism, near sightedness and far-sightedness.

The procedure can be accomplished at the clinic and does not require confinement afterwards. This laser cosmetic eye surgery can be over in 20 minutes and the patient can go home. Recovery period is also shorter and can last for only 3-4 days.

Compared to cosmetic laser eye surgery methods that came before it, LASIK causes only minor discomforts. For these, the doctor can give eye drops for relief.

Since it is commonly used nowadays, lasik cosmetic eye surgery has undergone a lot of improvements in the past years. A more improved form, which is also fast gaining popularity is Epi-LASIK or Epithelial Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis. It combines the benefits of previously used laser cosmetic eye surgery techniques and offers a much shorter recovery period. The procedure is basically the same but it does not make use of any alcohol solution to remove the cornea.

LASIK is one laser cosmetic eye surgery that has also proven itself effective for a number of eye conditions aside from the common astigmatism, near sightedness and far sightedness today.

It has also helped diabetics with retinopathy restore their eyesight. Older people with age related macular degeneration have been helped through this procedure. This involves using laser beams to break the cataract into small pieces. They are then removed by suction. After recovery, the cataracts are sure not to return so it becomes a permanent solution to this common eye disorder.

There are a lot of things to consider and to be discussed with your doctor before you undergo laser cosmetic eye surgery such as LASIK, as every medical procedure comes with its own set of benefits and potential risks.

After the procedure, a common discomfort is increased light sensitivity and blurred vision along with some minor pains. These are normal and the doctor can simply give oral medication or eye drops to relieve them. They should clear up in a matter of days after which one can go back to his normal routine.

Before your doctor recommends any form of laser cosmetic eye surgery for you, he will conduct a thorough examination of your eyes first. From there, he will determine which form or procedure is best for your case. It is not you who will dictate which laser cosmetic eye surgery you would go through.

Your age also determines whether you are a potential candidate for laser cosmetic eye surgery. It is not an option for individuals younger than 20 and older than 50. Younger people have eyes that are still developing while older people may have more serious eye problems that are beyond the help of laser surgery.

Carefully understand and discuss everything with your doctor - laser cosmetic eye surgery may just be the procedure that will give you a lasting healthy, normal vision.

For more information now go to:

http://www.perfectlasikvision.com/Laser-Cosmetic-Eye-Surgery.html

http://www.myalpha-power.com or

http://www.aperfectharmony.com

Laser Cosmetic Eye Surgery for the Windows to Your Soul

Certain factors such as stress, exposure to sunlight, cigarette smoke and pollution and age can all affect the way our eyes and the area around it look. Heavy eye bags, wrinkles and loose or droopy skin around the eyes can be unsightly and may make you look older than your real age. For these, the application of creams around the area may not simply work. Blurred vision due to conditions like astigmatism, near sightedness and far sightedness can be a burden to a lot of people too. Wearing eyeglasses or being highly dependent on contact lenses can be cumbersome. If you are serious about changing these problems, you might want to try laser cosmetic eye surgery.

A common problem is drooping eyelids. An option for this is blepharoplasty or eyelift. This is one of the most common cosmetic procedures done on the face. It can be done on the upper or lower eyelid, depending on where the patient needs it. Most commonly addressed problems involving the upper eyelids are droopiness and puffiness.

For the lower eyelids, the common problem is the presence of fat deposits. These make the eye look tired and in some cases, people even find it difficult to apply make up on these problem areas. They can also have an effect on vision since drooping eyelids can block the eyes. It can also lead to further development of wrinkles around the eyes.

These procedures however, do not correct crow's feet or wrinkles around the eyes. These may require separate surgical procedures.

Laser eye surgery is also not just performed for aesthetic or cosmetic reasons. They also work in correcting eye problems involving vision.

Common vision problems arise from distortions on the surface of the cornea affecting the way light is refracted. To correct this, laser eye surgery is formed, usually in the form of LASIK, which stands for laser assisted in-situ keratomileusis. Another procedure is photorefractive keratectomy or PRK. These procedures involve lifting the cornea and using laser beams to re-shape the tissue underneath it. These procedures are quick and patients have reported only minor stinging during the procedure. After this, the patient will have to wear soft and thin contact lenses for protection.

The recovery period is also shorter and the person can go back to his normal activities in a matter of days.

Laser cosmetic eye surgery is considerably low risk and can be done in a very short time, sometimes even at the doctor's office only. However, the eyes are such sensitive parts of the body so better ask the doctor for possible side effects and after effects once the procedure is done.

Some common complaints after laser cosmetic eye surgery procedures are increased sensitivity to light and some pain. These normally clear up in a matter of days and should they persist for more than 4 days, the doctor must be consulted.

Medication is often given to counter potential infections. These medications can be taken orally or in the form of eye drops. Scarring is also a potential problem and should be addressed immediately since it can also lead to loss of vision.

People of ages 20 to 50 are good candidates for laser cosmetic eye surgery. Younger people have eyes that are still undergoing development and people older than 50 may have developed more serious eye diseases.

Do not hesitate to ask your physician how many times he has performed the same procedure, and ask everything from benefits to potential risks. Remember that what is at stake here is not just how good your eyes look but also how well they will function later on. Laser cosmetic eye surgery has a lot to offer and to better understand it means healthier and more beautiful eyes.

For more information now go to: http://www.perfectlasikvision.com/Laser-Eye-Surgery.html

http://www.myalpha-power.com or

http://www.aperfectharmony.com

What Is Important When Choosing A Laser Eye Surgery Clinic?

It is quite confusing for people looking at where to go for their laser eye surgery treatment. Especially so in London, UK where there are many laser eye clinics to choose from.

In other cities you can usually find one or more of the big three chains: Optical Express, Ultralase and Optimax and these centres are probably doing about 80% of all laser eye surgery in the UK, simply because of their wide geographical footprint and so easy access for many people.

Most people really are not sure what to look for in a laser eye surgery provider. They don't understand the difference between different laser systems and they don't have easy access to the true performance or knowledge about individual surgeons.

So most people default to the 'look and feel' of the website and clinic if and when they attend for a consultation. Most of the brochures are pretty interchangeable, all making the same claims about experience, technology etc. You could swap the company name and not really notice the difference in brochures!

I found several brochures particularly unhelpful from a patient's point of view (although all suffer from the same problem) as they simply list procedure after procedure over multiple pages. How on Earth is a patient supposed to be helped by all of that? It only leads to confusion and possibly a decision to defer until things are clearer.

There are FOUR key points to look at when choosing a clinic:

1. The laser technology
2. The surgeon
3. The clinic
4. The price

Let's look at these in more detail:

1. Laser technology

The improvements in success rates and safety of laser eye surgery, including LASIK and PRK, have been mainly down to improvements in sophistication of the laser technology. The lasers are dramatically better than they were even a few years ago.

NOTE: not all lasers are made equal, so you MUST look at the US government FDA trial results to get accurate performance information. These data are available on the results page of the Focus Laser Vision clinics website.
Also note that each clinic makes a claim that they have the best technology, but this of course cannot be true. They can't ALL have the best laser equipment, as they all have different systems. We at FOCUS bought the WaveLight Allegretto system from Germany as it had the best overall FDA clinical results in extensive trials.

2. Surgeon

Equally important for your result and safety is the surgeon who will perform the procedure and assess your suitability for treatment. The most important decision is who NOT to operate on! In the UK you can look for one or more of the following points in your surgeon: 1. NHS Consultant appointment, 2. Fellowship training in refractive surgery and corneal disease, 3. Extensive experience in treating your kind of prescription, 4. Has performed more than 5000 procedures, 5. Works in refractive surgery on a full-time basis or at least two days every week if involved in other areas of ophthalmology (the more time in refractive surgery, the better), 6. Teaching and presenting on refractive surgery skills, vision outcomes and research.

3. Clinic

Look at the support that each clinic will offer to you. Individual independent clinics can usually offer excellent continuity of care so you see the same clinician each time, but may not be as well geographically placed as some of the nationwide chain centres. Ask if you will get your surgeons private phone number after treatment in case of problems or advice being needed. This number is very reassuring for patients.

4. Price.

Last of all, look at the price. You want the above three factors to be the best you can get first of all. If you are completely satisfied you have not compromised there, then you can look for the best price, but ONLY then. High price is not a guarantee of quality, of having the best laser technology, of getting the best surgeon. It may give you these things, but you have to look and make sure for yourself.

In summary, look for yourself and ask the right questions. I have more information of the FOCUS Laser Vision clinics website on this and other related topics.

Dr. David Allamby is medical director at FOCUS Laser Vision, a specialist laser eye surgery clinic in London, UK.

Lasik Or Lasek - Which Laser Eye Surgery Procedure Is Right For Me?

What is the difference in the two main laser eye surgery procedures?

There are basically two laser refractive procedures to correct myopia (short sight), hyperopia (long sight) and astigmatism: 1) LASIK and 2) LASEK. [You might also have come across the PRK laser procedure. You can consider LASEK and PRK as basically the same procedure for most discussions - they are both forms of ?surface? laser eye surgery with pretty much identical results].

LASIK is a two stage procedure. Firstly a superficial flap is created in the top part of the cornea (the clear window at the front of the eye). The vision correction laser is then used to reshape the inner part of the cornea and so eliminate the need for glasses. The first flap creation stage used to be carried out with a mechanical blade device, but modern clinics are now using a special so called 'femtosecond' laser to prepare the flap in a safer and more accurate way. There will be grittiness for 3-4 hours only and vision is usually fairly clear within several hours.

In the LASEK procedure, there is no structural flap made as in the LASIK method. In LASEK, the surface skin cells are brushed to the side, the laser applied to correct the vision, and the cells brushed back into place. A contact lens is then placed on the eye. This procedure is painful for the first 2-3 days and vision recovery takes 4-7 days.

Both LASIK and LASEK procedures are very safe and will give you the same final results. It can be quite confusing if you are thinking about laser vision correction and want to know which procedure would be best for you. While both LASIK and LASEK can give you excellent vision in a safe and reliable way, some surgeons prefer one or the other, or may indeed only offer one type anyway!

How is the prospective patient supposed to decide?

What happens in practice is that patients are greatly influenced by what their particular clinician says, and understandably so. It is always worth seeking a second opinion and comparing the findings and comments of each centre. This shouldn?t threaten any clinic worth its salt. Some patients feel more confident with one person or another, based on perhaps only ?chemistry?, but it is very important to know the difference in the techniques.

About 90% of all laser eye surgery treatments are done with the LASIK method. The lack of pain and the very rapid vision recovery are very appealing to most patients.

There are some patients who are not suitable for the LASIK method, usually due to anatomical factors in the eyes and may be eligible though for a LASEK surface laser technique.

It is worth noting that with the arrival of femtosecond lasers, such as the Ziemer LDV system, that some patients who were previously pushed into the LASEK group due to e.g. thin corneas, can now still have dual laser blade free LASIK. This is because the femtosecond lasers can create a very thin predictable flap and so preserve corneal strength.

LASIK and LASEK are both very effective procedures and can be used to treat myopia (short sight), myopia myopia(long sight), astigmatism (irregular corneal shape).

However, for reading vision problems, please be aware that many clinics do not have the correct technology required to correct these vision problems, including higher levels of long sight.

Dr. David Allamby is medical director at FOCUS Laser Vision, a specialist laser eye surgery clinic in London, UK. But, finding the best doctor should be an absolute priority. To find the best laser eye surgery New York physicians can offer might take time, but it's worth the effort.

Before even beginning the search for a licensed eye surgeon to perform the procedure, the best thing to do is make sure you understand it. After that, decide if you truly want to pursue eye surgery and then begin looking for the best New York can provide.

Laser surgeries, such as Lasik, work by correcting structural problems within the eye that create vision issues. Those with nearsightedness, farsightedness and even distorted vision can see some remarkable improvements if the procedure is done correctly and success is the outcome.

Lasik itself works by having the surgeon use a laser and a knife to reshape the cornea. This is the covering on the front of the eye. During the surgery, the cornea is opened to reveal the stroma. A portion of this part of the eye is vaporized to create the correct shaping for better vision and the cornea is replaced.

Although relatively painless with few complications, laser surgery is a big deal. If a doctor isn't as skilled as he or she should be, problems can result. Inasmuch, patients owe themselves and their vision the favor of making sure the best doctor is hired. And, even if everything is done correctly, problems can still arise. This is where a skilled, practiced surgeon can make a real difference.

Considering the number of eye surgeons touting their services much like car salespeople hawk their vehicles, it's very hard for a patient to decide whom to turn to for this type of surgery. Going with the first surgeon that's spotted on a billboard or tevelevision commercial may not be the best idea. They can certainly be considered, but make sure that more than a friendly smile on the doctor is checked out before surgery commences.

Those in New York looking for the best laser eye surgeon can start with the ads or even the phone book, but more work should be done. One a doctor or doctors have been selected, go visit them. Check into their background and even talk to past patients. A long track record in performing eye surgery successfully should be a must. If possible, even check with the state's licensing boards to make sure no major complaints have been filed.

It may seem a little paranoid to check a doctor out like he or she is going for top government security clearance, but it's eyesight we're talking about here. Rely on trust alone for your plumber, maybe, but don't do it for a medical professional. Take advantage of free consultations, speak at length with the doctor about the procedure, check backgrounds and them make a decision.

Since we're talking about eyesight here and a genuine chance to improve it, it just doesn't make sense to settle for less than the best. Moreover, a recent Middleberg/Ross survey shows that 98% of journalists go online daily, and 73% use the internet to find press releases. This demonstrates the importance of a strong media presence, yet few companies have the resources to address this need effectively or to distribute their releases to a wide audience. Firms such as TeleBuzz can help businesses fill the gap and increase exposure without tying up valuable resources.

"With the internet becoming such a mainstay in the lives of so many Americans, it's more important than ever to capitalize on web marketing," says Domb. "A powerful press release delivers a company's message, increases brand recognition, and improves the overall perception of the company. Businesses that are unable to target this market will be missing out on an important opportunity to deliver their message to a wider audience."

About EyeLogic Media EyeLogic Media specializes in Search Engine Marketing techniques, a growing field in business marketing. Today this technology is used in every aspect of medical field. This is also true when it comes to eye surgery. Nowadays, there are many types of surgery available to correct a persons vision problems. Laser eye surgery is one of the most advanced, and is used especially for the correction of problems like myopia (near sightedness), hyperopia (far sightedness), and astigmatism (distorted vision).

Why is the reason such problems occur in the first place? The main cause of such problems is problems with focusing the image on the retina of the eye and the reason for that varies upon three different factors:

the distance from the back of the eye to the front of it,

the shape of the cornea which is the curved clear front surface of the human eye above the iris and the pupil. It provides approximately two thirds of the eye's ability to focus.

the shape of the lens.

The shape of the cornea is changed using special devices during a laser eye surgery. One such device is called excimer laser. What this procedure does is producing a laser beam that vaporizes tissue around the eye. It actually removes targeted areas of the eye tissue without harming the surrounding area. Therefore It also goes under the name if "cold" laser.

Laser Surgery Procedures

The most common types of laser surgery procedures are

PRK (Photo-Refractive Keractomy), available since early nineties and

LASIK Eye Surgery (Laser Assisted in situ Keratomileusis), first introduced in mid nineties.

The PRK procedure take small amounts of eye tissue on the surface of the eye and vaporizes it using a beam of light in this type of surgery. This procedure removes enough tissue to reshape the cornea and correct vision. The recovery takes a week or less.

The LASIK surgery procedure involves a series of steps that are considered complicated.

Step one is to cut a flap of the cornea and lifted.

Step two: the surgeon removes precise amounts of the inside layers of the cornea using a laser guided by a computer.

Step three: the surgeon puts the flap back in its place and the eye heals fast by itself.

What are the benefits and the risks?

Highly skilled and well prepared medical specialists perform the Laser eye surgery. For majority of the patients, the results are very good and their lives are significantly improved. They can throw away their glasses or contact lenses after a successful surgery.

Keep in mind the importance of having realistic expectations about laser eye surgery. In some cases it might be necessary to wear glasses for reading if the patient is over 40 years of age. The eyes continue to change after the surgery and you may have to wear prescription glasses or lenses at some point in your life. A second laser eye surgery is normally not ruled out if the first one is not entirely successful.

One side effect of PRK laser eye surgery, is that the patient may have a blurry vision throughout the healing process. Fortunately, this generally clears up later.

Regression is another side effect from such surgery. What happens is that the eye returns back to its' previous condition. This might happen within six months and if it happens you might need another surgery to correct it or you have to wear glasses or contact lenses.

The negative side effects are very less in a LASIK surgery. Even the healing of the eye is faster. Since a LASIK involves cutting of some tissues of the eye the complications and risks are a bit higher than the other eye surgery procedures we have mentioned.

Dean Brooks is an internet publisher who likes to publish eye surgery information. If you are tired of wearing contacts or eyeglasses, you may want to consider going for a laser eye treatment.

Laser eye treatment involves correcting your vision with a laser so you can see better again without the need to wear contact lenses or eyeglasses. You can benefit from laser eye treatment if you have vision impairments such as far-sightedness, near-sightedness or astigmatism.

If you are interested in having laser eye treatment, you need to visit your optometrist to discuss the treatment. However, to help your optometrist to correctly assess your eyes, stop wearing your glasses or contact lenses four weeks before your visit. The contacts or eyeglasses can affect the shape of your cornea. Your optometrist needs to be able to give a correct assessment of your eyes before recommending the laser eye treatment.

List all the questions you have about laser eye treatment when you go in to your optometrist for consultation. He or she will be able to answer your questions and explain to you aspects of the laser eye treatment hat you may be concerned about. Remember, before deciding to undergo any kind of treatment, it is best to know everything you can possibly can about the treatment you will be receiving.

For more extensive information regarding LASIK eye surgery visit Vision-Doctor.com, a website that specializes in laser eye surgery information and helpul information on obtaining discount contact lenses at http://www.vision-doctor.com

Using Eye Exercises for Better Vision

Can eyesight really be improved? Well, MRI or magnetic resonance imaging coupled with the latest computer programs that map the human brain have been put to use to do research on the brain and how our eyes see. Though our eyes do ?see? what is around us, the images are sent to the brain and processed there. So sometimes, a glimpse of someone or something familiar, and though the eye does not see all of it, the brain recognizes the person or thing. So it is the brain that is the final decider on what you see.

Recognition of people and things begins soon after birth and is a process of associations. So what we experience and know influences how we see. Sight turns into perception only when we know something about what we are looking at. However, when the sight fails, especially if it is due to a condition like glaucoma, thanks to a decreasing ability to focus on the objects or people around, there is decreased interest as well. But the good news is that if you sharpen your powers of perception, it will help you ?see? better.

Let?s see what kind of exercises will help towards sharpening your perception. Before you begin any of them, however, do a bit of deep breathing. Through your nose, breathe in deeply right to your diaphragm or stomach. Then breathe out slowly through your mouth. Keep it slow and steady. Now begin.

Pick a building in your range of vision and observe it closely. Look carefully at the windows, the brickwork, the doors, the roof. In case you can see the number on the gate, look carefully at that as well. Make sure your eyes keep moving. Now do that to a friend. Look carefully at his face ? every detail of his eyes, nose, ears, mouth. Look like you are memorizing his face so you can draw it from memory later. You can look at a tree and follow the same routine.

Remember to blink often as it?s a great way to lubricate the eyes. Open and close your eyes slowly. With eyes closed, move your head back and forth, opening your eyes slowly for just a moment then shutting them again. Try blinking one eye at a time.

Take a sheet of blank paper and with a black marker, draw a large E. Prop up the paper and first look long and hard at the lower bar, then move your gaze to the upper bar, then the vertical bar and finally the bar at the center. Now shut your eyes and picture the E in your mind. Now move back so the paper is 5 feet away from you. Gaze at it again, then blink. Do this slowly. Now keep moving back and looking at it till you cannot see the E anymore.

You need to stimulate the cells that are mainly responsible for the peripheral vision. To do this, you have to extend your arms and wiggle your fingers. Look at them so you can see the movement. If you can?t, bring them closer till you can see your fingers.

Now close your eyes and see a large circle in your mind?s eye. Imagine that the end of your nose has a pencil attached to it. Now, draw a line around the circle, try and make the circle into an oval by squeezing it and then draw around the oval. Then, try making it into a figure-8 and draw around it. Now, try and write your name if you can. Then, put a piece of paper on your nose and tape it on the bridge. Put both your index fingers in front of your eyes and turn them, one clockwise and the other anticlockwise. Follow the movements with your eyes.

Get yourself an eye chart ? the ones they use to test eyes- and hang it up on a wall. Whatever you might be doing ? reading or just sitting, look at the chart once in a while. Or, look out of the window at distant objects occasionally. When you are reading, stop at intervals and try and remember what the last word you read was. Think of the word, the way it looked ? all black and then think of the white space around it and visualize that as well. Now look at the word once more. Just keep in mind that you should just look at it, not stare. Move your eyes around the word. This way, your eyes don?t get fixated on the page and do not get as tired.

What could also help is if you do a few exercises in order to relieve tension. Here are a few you can do. To relieve facial tension, yawn and massage your jaw. It doesn?t matter if you make a sound while yawning. Then, put your hands behind your ears and feel the muscle that goes from there to your neck and on to your shoulders. This is called the sternocleidomastoid muscle. Massage this twenty times. Now, rotate your shoulders, maybe ten times each one. Then move your head in a circular motion, clockwise, then anticlockwise ten times. This helps in minimizing the tension and in helping the circulation get better. Once the blood flow gets better, the optic nerve performs better too.

To find out more about computer vision syndrome and eye floaters and spots visit http://www.vision-care-guide.com/

Eye Strain Got You Down? Simple Steps To Reduce Computer Vision Syndrome

Have you ever wondered why long hours in front of the computer leave your eyes feeling tired and strained? What is it about computer monitors that leave us feeling tense, blurred, and dry in the eyes?

Focusing up close for any long period of time has temporary effects on our eyes. For starters, when we focus up close, our blink rate slows down. The average person blinks about 20 times every minute during normal activity. Blink rates slow down to less than half that when we are focused intently on anything up close, this includes the computer screen.

But why do computer screens affect our eyes more than reading a book or the newspaper? Computer images are pixilated, meaning they do not have sharp edges. In turn our eyes are working a little harder to make out the edges and convert these pixilated images to sharp edges. Printed material, such as text in books, has sharp edges. To reduce the pixilated effect on your computer, you can increase the screen resolution; however, this tends to shrink the size of the text you are viewing.

Another aspect that affects our eyes while working on the computer is the monitor location. Having the monitor ergonomically located below eye level will make your eyes feel better. The eyes dry through many means, including evaporation. If you are constantly looking upward at the monitor, your eyes will be more open lending them to more evaporative dry eye symptoms. Keeping the monitor located at a lower level will keep your eyes more closed while working, trapping in moisture.

An easy fix for your computer strained eyes are a pair of computer vision eyeglasses. Glasses will aid in ocular relaxation and allow you to work longer and more comfortably on your computer. Computer glasses are essentially low power reading glasses that simply magnify the screen. Some plans, if they do have vision coverage, may just be for the eye exam. With the costs of glasses, contact lens and the various forms of laser surgery today, many people desire and require vision insurance. Some employers will offer vision insurance at an additional cost. These are the cafeteria style benefit programs where the employee selects the coverage level desired and pays the additional premiums.

There are various vision plans available independent of employer-provided insurance.

Purchased vision insurance programs differ in the kinds of coverage included and also in the amount of covered expenses. Most plans provide the minimum coverage, eye exam, glasses and contacts and glaucoma testing with the amount paid depending on the terms of the policy. The cost to consumer is approximately $50 per year. The cost is lower if it is an add-on to an employer provided policy or HMO. However, the HMO will restrict the selection of the provider to one within their network.

Some vision insurance plans, like other forms of insurance, will let you select the level of coverage that you desire. The better the coverage is, the higher the cost is. Some even provide partial coverage for laser correction surgery, although this is not included in many plans. Avesis is one such provider of vision plans. Their plan covers glasses and contact lens and a small portion of the costs of LASIK procedures. Their plan does not cover treatment of eye diseases. The insured has to stay within their provider network to obtain the maximum benefits. If they go outside the network, they have to pay the bill in full and submit a claim for reimbursement of the portion of the benefits covered. VSP is another provider of individual vision care plans. Their plans are similar to the one described for Avesis, with some variations. Since VSP is in the process of developing programs in various states, the individual has to check their website to see if coverage is available in their state yet. Eyemed, and Spectera are other vision care providers. All of them make a distinction between network providers and out-of-network providers.

Many employers, realizing the cost of eye care especially with the advances made, like LASIK surgery, make some form of coverage available and many times at an additional cost to the employee. Those without employer provided coverage can look on the internet for available vision insurance plans. Avesis, VSP, Eyemed and Spectera are the vision care providers. The costs and the level of coverage depend on the plan the individual selects but most plans just cover lenses and exams.

For more vision insurance information, visit http://www.1st-insurance-shop.com
